After-School Curriculum: The Ascension Model
Ascension models are increasingly popular in many organizations, from the Boy Scouts to AAU sports clubs to public school systems. Typically, these models add additional levels of services to one basic or primary service, subsequently moving them from one level to a higher level systematically.
The Community Awareness Program is an example of an Ascension Model that focuses on youth development. Youth who enroll in clubs are grouped according to their age. This Ascension Model allows members to move up into the next oldest and more advanced creative and performing arts programs as they grow older. This ensures that youth in similar age groups have the opportunity to develop skills comparable to their natural peer groups.
Community Awareness Outreach's three stages of the Ascension Model:
- *A) Diamonds and Pearls Club** - This club is for male and female members aged 8-12 years old. Members advance to the next group at the age of 13.
- *B) PACE Club** - This club is for male and female members aged 13-15 years old. Members advance to the next group at the age of 16.
- *C) Youth 2 Day Club** - This club is for male and female members aged 16-17 years old. Members who are 18 years old are eligible to become a mentor or instructor for the Pioneers Club.
The Community Awareness Program provides orientation for club members, individual time with mentors, and annual recognition ceremonies. Each club takes on a special project requiring teamwork, and members attend coaching sessions with notable guest speakers and receive individual and group instruction. Field trips to places of interest support club objectives.

Mentoring & Arts Apprenticeships
The mentoring and arts apprenticeship program is designed to provide at-risk youth with a positive and creative outlet to learn new skills and build self-esteem. Through this program, young people are paired with mentors who are experienced artists in various disciplines, such as painting, sculpting, photography, and music.
The apprenticeship program provides hands-on experience, allowing young people to develop their artistic skills and knowledge while also building confidence and self-discipline. The mentors work closely with their apprentices, teaching them techniques, guiding them through the creative process, and encouraging them to explore their creativity in new and exciting ways.
In addition to artistic instruction, the program also provides mentorship and guidance to help the youth develop important life skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. The program is designed to empower at-risk youth, providing them with a safe and supportive environment to grow and thrive.
Through the mentoring and arts apprenticeship program, young people have the opportunity to discover their talents, build self-confidence, and develop a love of the arts. This program has the potential to change the trajectory of a young person's life, providing them with a positive outlet for their energy and creativity, and setting them on the path to a bright and promising future.
